Celebrating Our 50th Book!
Announcing the beginning of phase 2 of the project!
Hello literature loving friends!
We are delighted to announce we have posted our 50th audiobook into the paid subscriber library! We are very thrilled to release this book in particular because it was fully produced and funded by the 1000 Good Books Project! The book is Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson… an enchanting classic adventure novel that hopefully many people will enjoy!
We’ve had a lot of people inquire about the process of producing an audiobook. In phase 1 of our project so much of the work was done by volunteer readers or through improving upon audiobooks already in the public domain. As we enter phase 2 and funding for the project has begun to come in, we have been able to hire professional readers to record the books we are adding to the library. This not only increases the quality of audiobooks in the library, it also opens up new opportunities to start publishing classic books that are hard to find in audio form!
Here’s how the production of Treasure Island has come to fruition: First, after listening to audio samples from many different readers, we hired a talented local voice actor, Peter Rein, to read the book. Next, we searched and searched and found the PERFECT music to accompany the story and wove it into the introduction and chapter transitions. Then, we wrote an introduction to the book and then we recorded that introduction. Finally we edited the whole thing to make sure the sound quality was clear and the book sounded polished and we posted it to our library!
Thanks to all of our paid subscribers we have raised the initial funding to start commissioning quite a few new books to be professionally read and added to our growing library. Bringing this and many other books (including A Journey in Search of Christmas which we just posted today!) into audiobook form has been a labor of love.
We are so grateful for each and every person who has subscribed- because they are excited to listen to the books or just because they believe in our mission to to make high quality classic children’s literature easily and affordably available to parents in audiobook form. Our hope is that children who grow up listening to these books as opposed to engaging with modern online screen culture and television will be better formed intellectually and spiritually to engage with great literature and great ideas! If you want to support our mission but don’t necessarily have an interest in listening to the books, you can give a one time contribution to the project by clicking the TipJar link below! If all of our free subscribers gave only a few dollars, it would make such a difference in how many books we can produce!
Thank you so much for your support and enthusiasm for this project!
- Garreth and Cheryl
PS- If you haven’t seen it, we have added two more books today to our Advent by the Fire Christmas book list. All of our Christmas stories will be on our free channel for the entire month of December and through the first part of January. We hope this can be a fun way for families to slow down and connect deeper with one another during the Advent and Christmas seasons.
